Dedham, ME

The Dedham/Lucerne Fire Department is a combination fire department staffed by 16 dedicated members. Our team includes a part-time Fire Chief and three full-time firefighters working a 24/48-hour schedule with a built-in Kelly day on Sunday. We also rely on Paid On Call and Per-Diem personnel to cover calls, extra duties, and special events.

Operating out of two stations, we are equipped with seven pieces of essential equipment: Engine 371, Engine 372, Rescue 378, Tankers 373 & 374, Forestry Trailer 377, and the Chief’s rapid response/command vehicle. Our call volume is approaching 400 calls a year.

Where You Fit In

Firefighting/Rescue:

Firefighters and rescuers are at the heart of our operations. They respond to emergencies, including fires, vehicle accidents, and rescues. Members in this category receive extensive training in firefighting techniques, rescue operations, and emergency medical care. This role is perfect for those who are physically fit and eager to be on the front lines.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS):

EMS members provide critical medical care during emergencies. They are trained to handle various medical situations, from basic life support (BLS) to advanced life support (ALS). This category is ideal for those with a medical background or an interest in gaining medical skills to help save lives.

Junior Firefighter/Fire Explorer

This program is designed for young individuals aged 16-18 who are interested in exploring a career in fire service. Junior Firefighters assist with non-hazardous duties and receive foundational training in firefighting and emergency response. It’s a great way to gain experience and understand the responsibilities of fire service personnel.

Non-Emergency Administration/Support:

Not all vital roles require being on the front lines. Non-emergency support roles include administrative tasks, fundraising, event planning, and logistical support. These positions are crucial for the smooth operation of the department and are perfect for those who want to contribute but prefer a behind-the-scenes role.

Associate/Auxiliary:

Associate or auxiliary members support the department in various capacities, including community outreach, public education, and special projects. This category is suited for individuals who want to help in more flexible, non-operational roles. Their contributions are invaluable in strengthening the department’s community presence.
